Given its stellar cast, this is a somewhat obscure western from the late 1950s. It's unusual too in that it's somewhat slow moving and even introspective, a quality rarely found in the genre. That's not to say that there aren't gunfights, but there's little heroism and a great psychological depth. Based on the novel by Oakley Hall, it stars Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, Anthony Quinn, and Dorothy Malone, all residents of the title town, which is threatening to boil over. Look for DeForest Kelley ("Star Trek") and Frank Gorshin (the "Batman" TV series) in small roles. It has some similarities with "High Noon," but is a little more nuanced and less preachy. Fonda and Quinn also starred together in "The Ox-Bow Incident."

Henry Fonda in one of his best western portrayals. He has plenty of help from Anthony Quinn who acts as his side kick. They both are well known for cleaning up crime ridden towns, but act without being either a U.S. Marshall or a town marshal. This gives them more freedom to shoot first and ask questions later. It is an interesting question since most Western towns were so corrupt that the town marshal was a paid employee of the crime bosses. See how citizens of Warlock band behind Henry Fonda. It all is a great evening of entertainment!!
