I wanted to reread this trilogy, first picked up many years ago as a teenager, as I had fond memories of the tale. I was not disappointed. The three books are based in a fantasy world and tell of the life of a magician, Ged, as he grows into his powers, makes mistakes and redeems himself.
Written simply, as though being told around a campfire, Le Guin weaves magic and dragons into a darker than normal fantasy world, and not all magic is used for good. Her descriptions of landscape, particularly the sea, ar vivid and create a wide and realistic world for her characters. Each book follows a different main character, giving a fresh perspective each time.
It's a classic tale by a renowned author, and recommended for anyone who loves fantasy.
