Easygoing but psychotic Dennis (Anthony Perkins) is released from jail, where he has served a sentence for his complicity in a suspicious death. Wandering through a small, working-class New England town, Dennis befriends apparently normal high school A-student Sue Ann (Tuesday Weld). He fills her head with lies about his imaginary career as a secret agent. She is thrilled, and makes up her mind to join him in his further adventures. This jet-black "who's manipulating who?" seriocomedy was adapted by Lorenzo Semple Jr. from Stephen Geller's novel She Let Him Continue.

Perkins and Weld make an awkward duo, mainly because I strongly feel Perkins is far better suited as Norman Bates than Dennis Pitt. Weld is not much better, but because this is the first movie I have ever seen her in, I cannot give any comparisons. Suffice it to say, I just did not like her character Sue Anne. I did not care much for this movie overall.

Whew! This is a deliciously chilly, sexy, thriller. Tuesday Weld and Anthony Hopkins, the odd couple, both sexy and taught as violin strings. Grab your warm blanky and hang on for the ride.

This film could've risen above the grim proceedings if it had a better director. It's marred by the kind of film score that was common in the late 60's-mid 70's as well as 2 lead players that have zero chemistry. Anthony Perkins plays the slightly off kilter former mental institution patient as well as can be expected but he stays in his own world and never lets any other actor in. Tuesday Weld is ok but show's little depth as an actress. Not the worst movie of it 's kind but certainly nothing groundbreaking.

Perfectly acted, beautifully scripted. Can't give too much away, but by the end of the movie you will indeed feel sorry for the part Anthony Perkins plays. A true classic!
