Land of Plenty isn't for everyone, but patient viewers will be rewarded with a poignant look at life in America today. The screenplay by director Wim Wenders and Michael Meredith, from an original story by Wenders and Scott Derrickson, concerns Lana (Michelle Williams), a young woman returning to live in the U.S. after years abroad. While working as a missionary, Lana tries to locate her only living relative, an uncle named Paul (John Diehl), but once she finds him, he wants nothing to do with her. Paul is a Vietnam veteran living in fear of outsiders attacking America and obsessed with the 9/11 attacks. He travels in a van throughout the day and night spying on people who look suspicious to him. Finally, Paul allows Lana into his life when a sudden and unexpected killing of an Arab man forces them together in order to figure out the mystery behind the murder. Land of Plenty would be stronger if the main characters were less one-dimensional. Lana is too naive and goodhearted, Paul is too manic and paranoid. There are overtones of "Paris, Texas" another Wenders film. Good, but not great.

Disappointing movie, was patient and watched the first half. There were too many moments of no dialogue or interaction amongst the characters, just "dead time."

The movie is about two people learning to live in post 9/11 USA.

Paul, a Vietnam veteran, is convinced that terrorists are actively planning to strike Los Angeles.

His (long lost) niece Lana is idealistic and has just arrived from overseas.

Their lives come together in unexpected way(s).

A GOOD movie.

This film took me a little by surprize. I wasn't expecting the incredibly sensitive performances by the 2 lead characters. More over , I was expecting a typical " crazy war vet." story. This was a wonderfully written movie with enough understatement to make the viewer fully appreaciate the weaving in and out of reality suffered by the war veteran uncle.
His young niece is an "old soul" and her quest to understand the " why" of things brings her closer to the uncle ,who hasn't been part of her or her mother's life for a very long time. This is definitely a movie for repeat viewing.
