Poor Magdalena, on the eve of her most important birthday she discovers she’s been blessed with an apparent immaculate conception much to the dismay of her bible-thumping father. Meanwhile her tough streetwise cousin is having a menage with the gay couple upstairs and old Uncle Tomas is being faced with eviction. This sparkling little indie feature plays out like a telenovela yet possesses more wit and genuine emotion than most big budget flicks I’ve seen. It’s not often that I’ve actually smiled and cried at the same time while watching a film. It’s nice to know that I still can.

It is only because this is such an under-served, under-represented population that this little slice o'life even merits discussion. There is precious little insight here, no plot to speak of, but this might have been forgiven if the lead actress was not so astonishingly inert. The last Mexican actress I've seen who was this inexpressive was Dolores Del Rio. Que lastima!

Clever story although I found it hard to believe the virgin mary angle. I also would like to say that the descriptor gay cousin doesn't or shouldn't sum up her cousin accurately. I enjoyed this tale largely because I am partly Mexican - I enjoy connecting to my culture and hearing the Spanish language and the family warmth. The older uncle was played very well. Overall it felt quite realistic and possible.

The director of this film, Wash West, is highly regarded as a maker of "quality" gay porn. I chose this movie because of his reputation and talent in that arena. He is British. Obviously he was influenced by his Latino partner to approach this milieu. I think he succeeds, providing us with off-beat kids who survive the challenges of being outsiders to their american Mexican community.

the story gives us an nsight into the latin-american community but it failed to give us a conclusion it just ends without giving even a hint as to what will happen to the pregnant girl or her cousin if his family will take him back. nice movie though

This is an interesting look at a part of American life that rarely makes it to the screen: the interconnected stories of a Mexican-American family, in particular the coming of age ceremony of a girl's 15th birthday, her Quinceañera. Shot on location in the Echo Park neighbourhood of Los Angeles, this movie about family and community has a lot of heart. The dialogue is a mix of English and Spanish, with dubbing and subtitles available in several languages.

The story of a 14 yr.old girl and her life before her Quinceranera, her 15th birthday celebration.
Not too serious film about family and life.
