Chopin is considered one of the greatest pianists in history, and his works contain a multitude of original ideas. Yet he remained a reserved and private individual throughout his life, revealing himself only in his innovative music. Award-winning music writer Jeremy Nicholas offers a uniquely rounded portrait of this peerless composer. Woven throughout the book are links to carefully chosen selections on the accompanying two compact discs that bring to life the man and his music like never before. You'll also gain free access to an exclusive website from Naxos-the world's leading classical music label-that offers the musical works in full, the music of Chopin's contemporaries, a detailed timeline, and more. The main part of the book is a chronological biography with relatively little about the music, but that is compensated by the thirty page 'musical chronology' which describes his intellectual/musical development. When read in conjunction with the annotation of the contents of the 2 CDs, it gives a nice, full picture of the man and his work.
