While this Benoit Jacquot film was released in 2004, it was shot in black and white, perhaps to resemble the early French New Wave, the American Film Noir, and crime films directed by jean Pierre Melville. Or as one critic suggested, Jaquot was then able to blend in black and white archive film from Spain, Morocco and Greece when the protagonists hide out in those countries. Based on a true story, it deals with idealistic young lovers on the lam after killings that took place during a bank robbery in Paris.
