GREAT 2 CD collection of Ella singing with fab orchestral accompaniment selected from Ella's Songbook recordings.
Both are great, but I particularly enjoyed Disc 1 with several Cole Porter tunes originally recorded by Ella in mid-50's.

Ella Fitzgerald is, and always will be, my absolute favorite female singer from the "Golden Age" of Jazz.

With her extraordinary vocal-talents, Ella had an incredible singing range that spanned three octaves.

Born into poverty in 1917, Ella's debut as a singer took place at the Apollo Theater (in Harlem, NY) when she was just 17 (1934).

A Grammy Award winner, 13 times, Ella's singing career prevailed for 60 years. And, to date, 40 million of her 70+ albums have sold, worldwide.

This "Best Of" collection contains 2 discs of 22 songs recorded by Ella in the years from 1956 to 1964. A few of my favorites are - Skylark, I Got Rhythm, Cheek To Cheek and Over The Rainbow.

Sad to say - In 1996 Ella Fitzgerald died of heart failure at the age of 79.

I vote Best Female Jazz Singer of the 20th Century. The Songbooks contained some of her finest work.
