This really opened my eyes as to how vulnerable people and their pets are during natural disasters. We need to plan for these scenarios, wherever we may ilve. Ice storms, earthquakes, meteorites landing on a nuclear plant, who knows what might happen and when. The book is an enjoyable read, and really makes you think and appreciate the fantastic volunteer efforts. Without them, those animals would have died, so these are true rescues. I really enjoyed learning about the logistics during the aftermath of this event - pounds that were closed, how to clean animals without running water, who to set up a shelter in the middle of an empty field, etc. After this rescue, much has changed in animal rescue since, and I saw the learnings applied to Haitian animals after the 'quake.
