After a tragic security breach in the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force. Since they are not part of the compromised group, the FBI asks for help from the Miami authorities. This assignment goes to Detectives James 'Sonny' Crockett and Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs. Going undercover as Sonny Burnett and Rico Cooper, the two become offshore boat racers and outlaw smugglers. They take on the narcotrafficking network of the mysterious Archangel de Jesus Montoya-Londono and his Cuban Chinese banker Isabella. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one. When Crockett falls for the married Isabella, Tubbs's loved ones are assaulted.

The movie faces a significant challenge since the filmmakers want to portray things seriously and yet the original TV program thrived in terms of going over the top. As a result, the film is significantly flawed and has characters that act in ways that don't particularly make sense. At the same time, though, the visual style and overall cinematic approach looks fantastic. It's worth seeing, but don't expect anything more than a forgettable yet enjoyable action movie.

I really enjoyed this movie! I have seen it so many times that I've lost count. The acting cast is really good, the scenes and scenery (backdrop) of the movie including the story is entertaining. I liked Coin Farrell and Jamie Fox's characters and the strong female leads as well. The love story was a nice spin on an action/drama flick. I own this movie and will be watching it again!

I loved all the funny Scarface-like Caribbean accents and cursing!

Which one belongs to the city and which one belongs to the night?

The attempt of creating a realistic and gritty film version of the over-the-top cheesy show fails here. The movie is over-the-top and not realistic at all. The action, dialogue and story are all a bit much and the character development and acting were ok at best. Not a complete failure as an action movie, but don't expect too much.
