Singing Cowboys tells the fabled story of the men and women who shone brightly during the magical era of the singing cowboy movie star. It was an era when Western heroes sang and yodeled as well as threw punches and drew six-guns; an era where for a time nearly half the Western films churned out in Hollywood's golden age either featured a singer as a hero, or had singing second leads or singing ranch hands to provide that dreamy, romantic, exquisitely beautiful musicwe now think of as western.

"Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roams...."
Out of the 40+ "singing cowboys" (and, yes, 3 singing cowgirls) featured here in Douglas Green's informative and well-researched book, it's, of course, cowboy-dude Roy Rogers who ultimately remains my absolute favourite of them all.
This excellent book, which comprehensively covers the heyday of the Hollywood "Singing Cowboy" craze (1935-1955), is packed with some really great stills and plenty of insights into the vast popularity of these rugged, yodelling b-movie stars of yesteryear.
If you can believe it - It was, in fact, a 26-year-old John Wayne who played one of the very first singing cowboys in 1933's Riders Of Destiny. Wayne's singing voice was, of course, dubbed.
As an added bonus - Included along with this book is a CD of ten, old-time, country tunes sung by such cowboy stars as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Tex Ritter, to name but a few.
So, enjoy - And - "Happy Trails To You!"..... Yippie-Yi-Yo-Kayah!!!
