"Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roams...."
Out of the 40+ "singing cowboys" (and, yes, 3 singing cowgirls) featured here in Douglas Green's informative and well-researched book, it's, of course, cowboy-dude Roy Rogers who ultimately remains my absolute favourite of them all.
This excellent book, which comprehensively covers the heyday of the Hollywood "Singing Cowboy" craze (1935-1955), is packed with some really great stills and plenty of insights into the vast popularity of these rugged, yodelling b-movie stars of yesteryear.
If you can believe it - It was, in fact, a 26-year-old John Wayne who played one of the very first singing cowboys in 1933's Riders Of Destiny. Wayne's singing voice was, of course, dubbed.
As an added bonus - Included along with this book is a CD of ten, old-time, country tunes sung by such cowboy stars as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Tex Ritter, to name but a few.
So, enjoy - And - "Happy Trails To You!"..... Yippie-Yi-Yo-Kayah!!!
