I love this movie. Channing Tatum really is an exceptional dancer. There's at least 5 movies in the series, and they're all fun, with some great dancing, but this is the best one. Solid plot, likeable characters. But most of all, DANCE.

Great dancing, storyline, and actors! Definitely worth seeing! The other 2 that came after it are really good also!

Rumour has it that "Fame" screen-writer Duane Adler merely recycled his screen-play a second time for "Step Up"... after lending it out initially for "Save the Last Dance for Me".
Frankly - check out either one of those first - before you take this one out - unless of course you really love adolescent dance movies!
This little teen-drama stinker takes itself too seriously - ultimately missing the mark with bad acting, even worse clichy dialogue (hood mumbo-jumbo meets upper-crust glib) and a sucky seen-it-all-before script.
Was there anything good about it to recommend?
Well yeah... the dancing!
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan light-up the floor with their moves and give the movie its only real life thru' their interpretive hot and sexy choreography.
Happy toe-tapping, if you take the plunge.
p.s. By the looks of the reviews for Step Up 2 - things didn't get any better in the newer version, either, which would suggest it was only done as a blatant cash-cow sequel... I guess, much like this one too!

Not a bad movie, the dance moves were rather fresh.
