This 2-disc set is very similar in content to the early "Home in Your Heart" collection. Spanning about a decade (early 60s to ealry 70s), this is a great compilation of a major soul singer who was sometimes overshadowed by contemporaries like Otis Redding (who connected more with a Rock audience) and Sam Cooke, who was a friend of us. "Down in the Valley" and "Cry to Me," which was covered by the Rolling Stones, were two of his biggest hits, but he had a deep catalog and there's not a bad song here, although the early 70s influence (pillowy strings, funky guitars) is evident on the later track "Midnight and You." Burke had a late career comeback with "Don't Give Up On Me," which feature songs written for him by Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, and Bob Dylan. He died in 2010 leaving behind a lot of classics songs and a lot of children.
