While it is graphic at times I believe 12 and up can handle it. The main characters are 6th graders and having dealt with this age I believe most can handle it. I just finished reading the series and found it excellent. Think of it as Twilight Zone meets Lord of the Flies. For a story that is 40 years old it is still relevant today. It is one of the best manga I have read.

Well I read the scanning of this book on the internet and this book (SPOILER ALERT!!!!) is extremely graphic in other books. Children are killed in horrific ways and there is a lot of disturbing imagery. I would see this for teens in high school.

In all honesty...I tried to like this. I read most of them before I finally gave it. Its acclaimed, and I know it is a good manga. I just could not get over the how whiny the main character was. He drove me insane.
