I can agree with the sentiments expressed below. I suppose the movie is realistic at least it was in 2003, maybe (I hope) less so now in 2015 but my main complaint (SPOILER here) is that I wish Hollywood would not always find it necessary to have a happy ending. Life IS NOT like that and the comparison with European flics in this regard is palpable. Tear-jerker until the end. Humbug.

The main theme of this movie is that if you see a comic page of the newspaper close up, all you see is dots, but farther away they make sense. This movie tells gay stories, dozens of them. Seen as a whole, the movie is warm-hearted and complete. Each individual story that the movie tells can be quite different though. There are happy stories, sad stories, stories that will warm your heart, stories that will infuriate you, stories that will make you realize that you need to come out to someone, stories about human caring and growth and love and about shallowness and people who use others and throw them away like old kleenex. Many of the stories are things you can relate to, but may have never seen told as a story before but they happened to you. This is a wonderful movie and well worth seeing a few times, and that you won't get tired of watching over and over because each time you see it there will be something new to understand.

This was a good movie, well-paced, well-filmed. This is was a ground-breaking movie at the time it was released and certainly mertis a second look. The main characters are written and acted in a manner that is true to them. After this movie was released and was well-received, it opened the door other movies about either mormons or other devoutly religious men meeting guys they're attracted to became almost routine. Special merit to Joseph-Gordon-Levitt and Mary-Kay-Place.

Found this movie very entertaining. The Acting was great by both actors. Kept you entertained all the way through. True to life story I think, one of the better gay movies.

Mormons and queens. Again. No singing this time. These boys get nekkid. Jo-Go Levitt plays a huffy Mormon in this one. He likes these gay-themed movies apparently. So do I.

Imagine a Mormon Brother falling for an escort boy in LA. Hard to believe? Well, how about the ruckus that reverberates through the 'Church of Latter Daze' brotherhood when the lad's kiss is disclosed. It's a good story, fairly believable and the acting is great.
