I enjoyed this drama about a couple trying to cope with a past family tragedy. The film is a mix of personal trauma, adolescent love, infidelity and parental dilemma, with all actors doing their parts well. Kim Basinger still looked ravishing. No uplifting ending here, but still well worth a watch.
I would not recommend this to friends. The plot was thin and the ending was not believable, as though the author had a hard time figuring out the ending.
I've tried to watch this at least twice, but never quite got to the end. It's fairly well done, but very slow and a bit ponderous. At one stage, the director reaches for the comedic, but obviously thinks better of it and rather abruptly desists. Bridges doesn't strike me as a sensitive actor, and during his speech of revelation to the boy I just had to switch off. More of Basinger would've helped: she's aptly blank- and puffy-faced, and manages to express, with very little dialogue, a perfect pitch of angst and weariness; I wish she'd been utilized more. (Catch her in LA Confidential, and Cellular, where, again, she doesn't disappoint)
One of the dumbest films I've ever seen. Kim Basinger should just retire. This film was a complete waste of time.
I was expecting better from this movie.
The child actor Elle Fanning gave an excellent rendition of a child's bewilderment when caught between two parents whose actions are inconsistent and self-centered.
Not one I'll be watching again.
This is an excellent story. Slow to start but stay with it, it was well worth it.
Nudity and sexual situations. For adult audience only.
