The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray by Chris Wooding is a story about a seventeen-year-old boy in Victorian London who hunts down monsters known as wych-kin. I would give this book 4/5 stars because it was practically flawless with the exception of the characters. The writing style was great; I was a little bit disoriented regarding Wooding’s flowery descriptions, but it was lovely overall. The pacing was phenomenal. Seeing as how I didn’t like any of the characters: I was indifferent to their deaths and how their romance unraveled. The characters weren’t bad, their motivations were just boring. The worldbuilding and plot were fantastic though. The mood was a bit gloomy. Alana, grade 11, of the Yorba Linda Teen Book Bloggers
