very well made and effecting example of how history is recorded for posterity. While the vast number of single parent homes have a mother and children who have been deserted by the father, this film takes the novel approach of telling history from the male perspective. WHen mothers carry on raising the children after the father deserts, they're just doing what's expected, but when a man doesn't abandon his children, he's a saint. To put a bow on the fairy tale, the bad step-mother is the cause of the broken home.

Evelyn is based on a true story of a father who did not heed the word "no" when the Irish government told him he could not raise his children. The actors do a great job especially Sophie Vavasseur as Evelyn. Heartwarming story.

This movie, loosely based on a true story, came out in 2002. Sophie Vavasseur stars as Evelyn, the little girl sent to an orphanage . Her father Desmond Doyle is played by Pierce Brosnan and the cast includes Juliana Margulies, Alan Bates, Aiden Quinn and Stephen Rea.It is Irish to the core and tells of the struggle of Desmond Doyle against the power of the Catholic Church and Government to have the Provisions of The Children's Act of 1941 repealed so that he could re-unite his family after their mother ran off to Australia.. A moving and inspirational film.

Slow but interesting true account of how a down and out Irishman took on the legal system and won.
