After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn't know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of everyone's preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can't seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph. But when Colin returns to London from a trop aboard he discovers notyhing in his life is quite the same--especially Penelope Featherington! The girl haunting his dreams. But when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat--or his promise of a happy ending?

It is fun to read these in order but each can be read as a stand alone story. This is a great book with charming characters. It is witty and endearing. This author touches on many everyday problems with grace. I'd read this again.

I'm reading thru the bridgerton series in order and am enjoying this writer, while this book can stand alone, it's much more fun to read them in order. Great beach read.

Do you love the wallflower + rake trope in your historical romances? Then you should read this one, which is probably still the best of its ilk I've ever read. Heartfelt and hilarious, like all of Quinn's books, this is just as much of a hoot on a second reading as it was on my first. I'd like to echo the commenter below, really -- hooray for Penelope (and Colin), indeed.
