Still enjoyed this quirky witch movie, even though it's not up to today's picture quality.

THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK is an odd flick. Three friends whose single status binds them are divided by a devious and manipulative man. Charismatic as all hell, Daryl van Horne knows all the right things to say to entice and tantalize the minds and bodies of these women. And once he does, this trio of gals are magically changed, never to be the same again. One is Alexandra, a self-sufficient widow who devotes herself to pottery. She's played by Cher, an underrated actress that unfortunately is wasted on this diminutive role. The second is Jane, a bookish music teacher whose divorce has just been finalized. Susan Sarandon tries to embody that mindset and gives more than the writing deserves. Third and finally, Michelle Pfeiffer is Sukie, an idealistic working mother whose husband deserted her with a barrage of little tots to tend to before dashing off to write for the town paper. Miss Pfeiffer? Another fine actress put to little use. These women are incredible performers that need roles with more substance, but the writers let them down, forcing these great actresses to desperately try to imbue one-note characters with some life. This film is very flawed. For one, its implausibility makes suspension of disbelief tough to sustain, but the greater issue is pacing. My goodness, THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK drags on and on. It's so slow and ambling like an old man with a cane on a walk through the countryside. It doesn't get to the point nearly as swiftly as you hope it will. Instead, it becomes boring and bland, eyes glazed over as you wait for the other shoe to drop. Guess what? It never does. I don't recommend it.
