"Box of Pearls" was originally titled "Cheap Thrills" with a terrific Robert Crumb drawing. Columbia has re-released the album with both the original material and alternate takes and a live recording. Personally, I would have loved to keep the same album cover and still add the additional recording. Still, this is the music that turned a nation into Janis Joplin fans. The band was left in the dust, because Janis would soon go out on her own without recording any more Big Brother and the Holding Company. I am glad to see that music from the 1960's still has a strong following. I saw Janis and Big Brother many times having grown up on vertically the same street as Big Brothers Bass player Peter Albin. They played our junior college and at Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland. Those are great memories and you will find some great music in "A Box of Pearls".
PS Underneath the tittle "A Box of Pearls" is "The Janis Joplin Collection". That title should have waited for material where she had left Big Brother.
