This was my favorite novel out of the dear America series!
Later on this month, I will board a plane along with a couple of hundred strangers. We are virtually guaranteed to make it to Oregon in a few hours; get there alive and well; I can easily get food & beverage while traveling; Everything we packed will make the trip with us; Sometimes bags go astray, but they turn up eventually; we won't get frostbite & the clothes we are wearing will be as new as they were when we began the trip; I will text my family on arrival to let them know I got there safely. We think we walk long distances in the airport, but compared to walking a couple thousand miles on the Oregon Trail? Not so much.
As I read this diary written by a pioneer girl in 1847, it is incredible that absolutely none of these things were true for her.
Our ancestors endured great hardship to expand this nation.
It took courage & a darned good reason to even attempt it.
I had a lot of respect for these rugged & determined folks. Now I have even more! Next time I'm feeling sorry for myself because my power has been out for a couple of hours, I will remember Hattie and count my many blessings!
this book was GREAT!!! It was sad but VERY good!!!
I LOVED this book!! I think it was one of the best books in the Dear America series!!!
My ten year old's review: This is a good book for people who are interested in history. It's a little sad, but it has a happy ending.
I sincerely enjoyed this book. It taught me about stuff they had to go through! I am very thankful to have been born in the twenty first century!
I love learning about old things that happened. I really want this story to be true because whenever I read a book like this I actually feel like I could go out there and do what they did.
This book really brings to life the journey over the Oregon trail. I love this book, and have also enjoyed other books in the "Dear America" diaries
