This is a great resource from start to finish for anyone who wants to take charge of organizing their home and routine. The book begins with Martha’s monthly calendar (readers of Martha Stewart Living magazine may be familiar with its handy day-by-day tasks for each season). It develops a structured guide with helpful hints and a handful of activities to accomplish each month. This guide can easily be used year after year. Tasks are nicely spaced out and the chores are intermixed with enjoyable activities so the month doesn’t seem too daunting. You don’t have to do everything every time; there are plenty of ways to mix it up year-to-year.

Following the yearly calendar are organization tips for every room of the house, including how to clean the area, what to keep and when to throw things away, and how to avoid clutter. As a packrat, this was especially helpful.

The final part of the book focuses on your routine and goes through tips in several categories: cleaning, laundry, gardening, home, cooking, entertaining, celebrating, kids, pets, and wellness. There is a lot of information but it is divided into manageable pieces that can be accomplished over time. You begin to see how Martha does it all—by staying organized and taking each task one at a time while making sure to balance chores and fun activities with the family.
