The latest from legendary master storyteller Stephen King, a riveting, extraordinarily eerie, and moving story about a man whose mysterious affliction brings a small town together--a timely, upbeat tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences.

Although Scott Carey doesn't look any different, he's been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn't want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis.

In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King's most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low grade--but escalating--battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott's lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice. Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. When Scott finally understands the prejudices they face-including his own--he tries to help. Unlikely alliances, the annual foot race, and the mystery of Scott's affliction bring out the best in people who have indulged the worst in themselves and others.

From Stephen King, our "most precious renewable resource, like Shakespeare in the malleability of his work" ( The Guardian ), Elevation is an antidote to our divisive culture, as gloriously joyful (with a twinge of deep sadness) as "It's a Wonderful Life."

Short book, quick read, interesting premise, reasonably well developed characters.

A book as light as its character, Scotty Carey, who methodically lost weight until he rose above -defying gravity. In the meantime he befriended his Lesbian neighbors who struggled and succeeded to be accepted in a conservative town.

This book is a little gem. He does deliver his supernatural, but in a cozy, small town setting . It will make your soul take flight.

A very quick, light and charming read. Not horror at all. Just a sweet small-town story and the beauty of the unknown.

This book is great fun. Like the Stephen King of old.

Imagine my surprise, it read like Mitch Albom? What happen, atonement?

I usually love SK writing but this was not a good novella. Not horror, perhaps Scifi, but not really telling the full story much like Gwenny's Button Box a novella that should have been a short story. His politics seem to be the main focus of the book, not the characters.

Honestly, this was a surprisingly disappointing read. From Stephen King, you would expect a fantastical horror novel, but "Elevation" was everything short of that. It was more like a lecture, which is boring and not worth someone's time. I do not even think I would even recommend it to anyone because it is just so boring. If I absolutely had to, I would recommend it to much older readers. It is especially disappointing because judging the cover and the synopsis, you would expect a thrilling horror, but it was not meeting those standards at all. Overall, very disappointing, very short, and not worth your time. @SecretBlossom of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Was this a contractual obligation King owed publisher? Labeled a novel but clearly a short story (146 pages). I read it in one sitting. Not much happens and the inclusion of "lesbians" did not add much to enhance strange plot--if any. This short story should have been included in the next King filler short stories book.
