The makers of 11/8/16 have somehow managed to make a reasonably fair documentary about contemporary American politics. Certainly, the wide selection of subjects, although strongly tilted to the left, ensures that partisans of all sides (and there were more than two) will find things to anger, amuse, and encourage them. Not only is the film a vivid snapshot of one moment in the "push and pull struggle" that is democracy, it actually inspires hope that what we share may yet prove greater than our differences, without pretending that those differences aren't both real and deep.
