The graphic novel which inspired the hotly tipped and highly controversial new movie directed by Armando Iannucci, due in theatres in March, and starring a host of high profile actors, including Michael Palin, Steve Buscemi and Jason Isaacs.

Fear, corruption and treachery abound in this political satire set in the aftermath of Stalin's death in the Soviet Union in 1953.

When the leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, has a stroke - the political gears begin to turn, plunging the super-state into darkness, uncertainty and near civil war. The struggle for supreme power will determine the fate of the nation and of the world. And it all really happened.

DEAR SIT_WALK: Eeeee-not quite. Stalin and those who followed him had COMPLETE control of the media and all information ( so much so that, when in the 1970s Middle East terrorists kidnapped a Soviet diplomat and held him for ransom, the Soviet Union could do what neither the United States or other Ally nations could. They simply kidnapped one of the kidnappers and delivered him in a crate to the ringleader`s front door: cut to pieces with a chain saw and a little note propped on his lips stating this would continue to happen, the ringleader being the last, until they got their diplomat back, alive and unharmed. The Soviets had their diplomat back in under two hours!) In contrast, Trump can`t even take a crap without it being front page news - if, for no other reason, Dandy Donald TWEETS about it! He`s the most `in-plain-view` politician there ever was! For better or for worse, everybody knows everything (TMI!!!!!)

Great book, jaw-dropping in the face-slapping stupidity of authoritarianism run amok. Parallels with contemporary US politics are easily spotted. Terrifying and hilarious in equal measure.

What really happened when Stalin died?
This graphic novel inspired a movie of the same name.
