After Ray Harryhausen blew the world away with the self-financed 'THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD', all the Hollywood moguls who had smugly turned him down flat started scrambling to catch up. United Artists rushed this film into production, utilizing nearly the same cast (only a different leading lady) - and laid the proverbial egg at the box office! Adorable as George Pal`s creations were (and despite some reasonably scary moments) what was missing was 'personality'. When the Cyclopes of 'SINBAD' came running out, madder than hell and not gonna take it anymore, the age of simply making a 'beasty' move came to a crashing end. "SINBAD' showcased what Harryhausen had been doing all along but Hollywood hadn't noticed - giving his creatures an internal life. Enjoy THIS film, by all means! But then see 'THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD'. If you don't suspect, before his big entrance, the director took the Cyclopes to one side and said "Okay, Kid! This is ya big moment! This is the moment that makes or breaks this film! Ya goin' out there a nobody - BUT YA GOTTA COME BACK A STAR!" ....well, at least if you don't find yourself cheering the cheeky 'little' Cyclopes along as he goes emoting all the way....OH HECK! JUST SEE THE FILM! YOU LOVE IT!!!
