Laughably overrated crapola by the dreadful Brooks, who's always looking to spin a 'ripping yarn' at the expense of character development or any sort of naturalism. Lavishly praised by critics at the time, it was made to look ridiculous by the Wild Bunch a couple year later.

Perfect pacing in this well told tale.
(And all without CGI or wire-work !)

After all these years, its still one of my all-time favorite Westerns.

Weak script. Lancaster's and Marvin's were the only substantive roles, and they were just going through the motions. Ryan's part was secondary, and Woody Strode just played with his bow and arrows. Palance's character barely spoke until the end of the movie. But, even with that being said, those heavyweight actors still made it a decent Western. And, oh yeah, the INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL Claudia Cardinale...

Jesus Raza (in a standoff, after gunplay between the two): "Where did the bullet bite you?" Bill Dolworth: "In the ass. You?" Jesus Raza (looking at the bullet wound in his thigh): "Oh... another two inches... Mamacita!"
