Karin Slaughter has become one of my absolute favorite authors. I've been a big fan of the Will Trent series but with this stand-alone novel she has really outdone herself. There are
a few slow spots in the book but taken as a whole I would say this is her very best so far.
The plot twists and turns are amazing and I became very involved in the lives of the characters.
It was very hard to put down and now I need to try to catch up on all the household chores that I let slip while I was curled up with this great story.

Thriller about a two girls who experience a traumatic event in their young lives and how that follows them into the present day when another tragedy occurs in a schools where one girls who is now a woman, visits. Too much explaining events and harping on the traumatic events and not enough action for me in this story. Came out of it disappointed even though it got good reviews. Don't know if I'll read any more her though.

I have read a number of her books. This one is excellent and I rank it as highly as "Cop Town". Well worth the time.

This author is one of my favorite storytellers, and I think this was her best story to date. The main characters are well-developed, the plot is compelling and startling, there are mysteries and surprises, and everything is wrapped up tight in the end, making reading this a very satisfying experience. My only disappointment was finding sexism and crudeness (both simple, fleeting moments) that were somewhat jarring and entirely unnecessary to the story. Perhaps I have higher expectations of female authors.

I could have rated this book 4 instead of 3.5 but at times a well described personality or relationship used more words than necessary. However, the context of the story - events in time, past affecting the present, local hometown, father-daughter relationships, secrets and withheld information, rape, murder, - all kept me reading to find a complete, nothing left out, more-than-a-murder mystery.

I read Pretty girls first and none of the other books are anywhere near as well written.

This book has many story lines weaved in to make you wonder where it is going in places but in all a good read

This is the first book in a long time that kept my attention and made me laugh out loud. The characters come to life on the page.
Highly recommend this book..

This was my first novel by Slaughter. I just find her writing style to be too, too wordy. She is absorbed in minute detail, drawing out every description to see how far she can push it whether it's a person's action, a murder scene, or a past failing of one of her characters. Similarly, the dialogue she writes between characters can go on for several pages with them bickering back and forth or someone trying to say something witty, but the plot is not really furthered - just stagnated. Then, the reader has to deal with the author's need to repeat several times, almost verbatim, what she has written at the beginning of the novel where she describes a traumatic event in the main characters' lives. The reader almost is ready to believe at different points in the novel that the author has forgotten about furthering the plot - the investigation of a school shoot out. At least this author can write a good sentence unlike some of the Best Seller Thriller authors. No wonder this novel turned out to be over 500 pages! This novel is too long for an ordinary person to read in a 7 day loan period.

I think Karin Slaughter is one of the best storytellers in fiction. She just sucks you in layer by layer. This book is totally different from anything she has written, but i could not put it down until I finished. I love her books and this one is wonderful.
