Although found in the kid's section and being perfectly acceptable for kids, some of the puns make it great reading for adults as well. The character names are all puns or play-on-words (Asterix, Obelix the Menhir Delivery Man, Getafix the Druid, the main villain: the Centurion Crismus Bonus just to name a few). Originally published in France in 1960, it stands the test of time to be excellent story filled with action and humor. The first volume of many, this introduces the main characters and is must-add to any comic collection.

Nice fable as a kid. Huge reality check as I read on Roman history & its war machine on Carthage & nearly wiping out Celtic culture as a teenager. Exotic Cleopatra descended from Greek general carved off after Alexander the Great's death. Roman politicians wouldn't take the insult & conquer village by fair or foul like assassinating the druid.
