Wiener-Dog tells several stories featuring people who find their life inspired or changed by one particular dachshund, who seems to be spreading a certain kind of comfort and joy. Man's best friend starts out teaching a young boy some contorted life lessons before being taken in by a compassionate vet tech named Dawn Wiener. Dawn reunites with someone from her past and sets off on a road trip picking up some depressed mariachis along the way. Wiener-Dog then encounters a floundering film professor, as well as an embittered elderly woman and her needy granddaughter, all longing for something more.

I liked it, however, the "riotous comedy " description should be removed. Except for the Intermission will see.
This is about people, the dog is a small part of it. So sad a movie, I actually wiped a few tears away. Everyone was terrific. No typical American blowups, killings, violence, popcorn watching, is a quiet, thinking movie. Do not show to young children.
Well done to the director

There was just a glimmer of something. The mother explaining to her son why the dog should be neutered, so she wouldn't be raped and have puppies and die was so shocking, I really wanted to laugh. Most of it was just sad.

You will either love or hate this dark comedy which is a commentary on the brutality of human existence. Warning, there are disturbing images you may not be able to "unsee". I enjoy films that challenge me and force me to contemplate ideas I might not otherwise think about, for example, our mortality.

Wow. What a piece of crap. Don't be fooled by the hype and the stars who are in this movie. It's an insult to anyone with a brain in their heads. The cute dog in it does not make up for a lame script and terrible acting.

This is NOT a movie for someone who is hoping to see something uplifting or cute or dogs in a funny movie. This is a VERY black comedy. So black it is, most of the time, very dark and depressing.

It is neither "lethally funny" nor "Hilarious" as it is rated on the outside of the DVD case. It is also not riotous (unless you are the SPCA).

The dog is the best thing about that movie and even then you will see the dog being neglected and even killed (just warning you).

Definitely NOT for family viewing.

I give this movie 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
I give the comment on this movie 5 STARS!
You people got trolled hard!
Do you have any idea what you watch? If you don't, does your sheer ignorance surprise you into enjoying a new experience in some way? At least don't comment on a film you have no concept of feeling for.
---- Intermission ----
Julie Delpy is so good in this.
This is an ok Todd Solondz film, not really that great. I thought the ending was a little predictable for Todd Solondz but at least it didn't just end with no resolve. I was thinking at 89 minutes there should have been another story scene and then I realized that "normal" (?) watchers would not have made it to the end.
After reading these comments I see that this is Todd Solondz masterpiece and it makes me feel better about his work.

If you are a dog lover or animal lover, this movie will disappoint. The dog in this movie is merely a "prop" given derogatory names from owner to owner. In the end of the movie, it is run over by multiple cars several times--this was sickening to watch. Somehow this seemed appropriate in this movie for a dog that was merely a thing, a prop. I had to turn away from this.

I failed to find the humor in any of it. The supposedly hilarious segments of this movie were very contrived. A grade schooler could write something more humorous.

What did I take away from this movie--absolutely nothing. I am sorry I watched the whole thing though hoping there was some emotional or a lesson that would "move" me. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I guess there are those that like this kind of thing but don't count me as one of them. Just a totally dumb movie. Waste of time. I'm embarrrassed to say I watched all of it. It's really dumb. The dog went from owner to owner without telling how he got there except when the assistant at the Vet's office walked out with it just before the vet was going to put it to sleep. Did I say this movie is really dumb?? Well it is.

The cover of this DVD says it is a riotous comedy!!!!! I thought with Danny Devito and Ellen Burstyn in it would be funny but it was awful, the funniest part was at the beginning but that didn't last long. Don't waste your time watching this.
