Brock has a father that is chronically ill. He has a desire to be well-liked by a popular bully. Yet he's also friends with an Asian kid who is bullied aggressively at school. Brock also plays football and soccer. Understandably he's scared of taking a hit but gradually he gets better. However that spirit of cowardice is the theme of the book.

I guess I had too high of expectations based on the reviews and the author's track record. The ending was very disturbing, not because of the violence but because of the lack of accountability. It made me sick to my stomach how the bully had no negative consequences. Zero. There's some definitely alot of potty humor and rough phrasing: "mom having sex with an iguana" "taking dumps the size of logs that back up toilets" "shoving violin up the butt" "fangs little wang", detailed breast talk.
