Yet another bit of nostalgia aimed at the tail end of the Boomer generation, Richard Linklater’s entertaining booze ’n boobs college caper revels in authentic period details (the hair! the clothes!) and a dream soundtrack of classic rock anthems. It’s 1980 and freshman Jake is eager to start training with the baseball team at his nondescript Texas college. With just three days before classes start and an entire house to themselves, Jake and his horned up teammates are determined to party as hard as they can with beer, bongs, and a bevy of buxom coeds seemingly at their beck and call. Linklater clearly remembers the carefree tackiness of the 80s as the guys—sporting porn moustaches, shag cuts and tight jeans—go from discos to cowboy bars to punk rock clubs on a never-ending hunt for sex and stimulation while Blondie, Hot Chocolate, and The Cars blare from every radio. Juvenile entertainment to be sure with a boys-meet-girls plot thinner than a polyester shirt, but Linklater’s savvy script reminds us of what it felt like to be young, awkward, and horny and his cast of nice looking dudes play their respective roles (jock, stoner, Lothario, Geek, redneck…) convincingly without becoming total clichés. Not as sentimental as "American Graffiti" and certainly less crass than "Animal House", this is still a likeable little distraction for those of us old enough to hum along with the soundtrack.

I had my doubts going into this one. I love Dazed and Confused and if you have a choice between the two check out Dazed and Confused. Having said that if you're a fan of Dazed and Confused already and looking for something new to watch this is definitely worth checking out. I really liked the team dynamic and the feel of the film. It just makes you feel good to watch. It's not a classic to watch over and over, but you'll enjoy the ride none the less.

This is basically a recycled somewhat updated version of Dazed and Confused. Not nearly as good as Dazed and Confused- here we cant tell if its the 70's (disco, disco music, polyester shirts ,etc) or the 80s? kicker bars, a few 80s songs, punk, etc? ). Too much nasty facial hair. If youre going to do 80s, go all out! I thought this was supposed to be that. Instead, see Fast times at ridgemont high, Valley girl, or any John Hughes films- they are better. It was a bit boring, w/ no character development, acting that sounded rehearsed/ forced. Fell asleep during, and Linklater mustve been too when he made it. (He does make some other good films, though). I'd title this Nobody Wants Any.

This is what happens when you have a focused sound track and a random script and then produce a movie using both.
This movie is okay then you get to the credits and the characters start to rap and you feel disturbed about the whole movie.

I'm a guy (born in the 90's lol) and at times I can find the dynamic that arises when large groups of young men get together rather annoying. Everybody Wants Some!! is able to simulate this phenomenon quite well. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily a good thing, as I was pretty annoyed at the display of testosterone early on in the film and was pretty close to shutting it off. Fortunately (or sadly, lol), I had nothing much better to do so I sucked it up and kept watching. It definitely ended up delivering 'some' more meaningful elements in the form of a sage-like character among the group, a very likeable "main" character and his ensuing romance. All in all, I was expecting better, but I never complain anytime I'm able to be entertained for 90 - 120 minutes.

Must disagree with the bulk of the comments: this film is very good. (Maybe not exactly four stars as I've rated but it's close.) Firstly, it's fun, with a great soundtrack and many funny lines and parts. But then these college jocks, who I was all set to dislike, start sharing thoughts and feelings with one another and create an underlying current of real emotion and caring and brotherhood - in the best sense of the word - that took me by surprise and runs through the film, which takes place a few days before classes start at some Southern college. The teammates turn out be real people, not stock jock characters, with big hearts. This movie's made a few "best of 2016" lists and now I know why.

Richard Linklater wrote and directed this movie. Like many previous reviewers, I do not think it is his best work. Of his films, I thought it was most similar to Dazed and Confused, which I enjoy, and Slacker, which I stopped watching though I appreciated its concept and look. Dazed and Confused followed a fairly wide range of generally likable characters. The characters in Everybody Wants Some!! are all pretty similar and unlikable. It has some good and funny moments, but they are too few and far between in an almost 2-hour movie. It is rated R for language throughout, sexual content, drug use and some nudity.
