Sometimes you find love in the most unexpected of places...

This is not one of those times.

Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband... someday.

Sometimes you fall in love with exactly the person you think you should...

Or not.

There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying, and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.

But sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor...

Because when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begins to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can't abide is the one person they can't live without...

I am so glad Julia Quinn returned to her Bridgertons--she writes them with such love and care that they feel real. Loved the banter between the hero and heroine. Can't wait for the next one in the series!

I had trouble getting through this one. Mostly just a lot of banter between the two main characters and it was almost page 200 before anything substantive happened. Simply not one of her better book.

An easy read, but nothing much happens in the book, it left me feeling that you didn't really get to know the characters. Not one of her best, by enjoyable none the less.

Light, sweet, and frothy.

Perhaps a bit too frothy - I really just wanted more from this. More character development, more depth to both Billie and George, just more. I think a longer time frame for the novel would have helped the story, but even with all that JQ books always manage to make me smile. This was ostensibly set in the Georgian era, but with the exception of referring to wigs and powdered hair a few times, was rather a-historical for a historical romance.

Still, I always enjoy Julia Quinn novels, and this was no exception. Those who like the Bridgerton series will love this!

Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Family is one we all want to join. She brings us great characters and a simple plot line to follow. Only flaw is I wish it had been longer!

Everyone's favorite family is baaaaaack! It's an earlier generation of Bridgertons (and their neighbors, the Rokesbys) who take center stage in this series-opener, and while nothing can quite match the total magic of Quinn's original Bridgertons series, there's a lot to love about this funny, charming book, and there are enough intriguing secondary characters to ensure that I'll be eager to read the later installments. Look, I think Julia Quinn is the best regency romance author currently writing, period, so even a book like this that, while delightful, isn't actually the absolute BEST of her work, is still fun and funny and a wonderful read for both old and new fans of the genre.
