Loved this book, and the person narrating it on the audio CDs did an excellent job. At first, it's not clear which character is telling the story, and what is Aurora? I now miss listening to this story during my commute. In fact, since I own the CDs, it has become my go-to while waiting for library books on hold. Those 17-some hours went quickly. It was fascinating & fun traveling around space with the characters and recognizing familiar human politics & social obstacles. Although their ancestors were from earth, the differences & similarities with those of us living on earth now was intriguing to ponder. I learned much from detailed information on physics & other sciences, which the author deeply researched to be as real as possible with what is known today.

It's almost impressive how Robinson manages to make space exploration and the colonization of a new planet so amazingly tedious. I get that the narrator is the ship's AI, and that explains some of the emotional distance and flatness, but it doesn't make the characters any more engaging.
