Kaling shares her ongoing journey to find contentment and excitement in her adult life, whether it's falling in love at work, seeking new friendships in lonely places, attempting to be the first person in history to lose weight without any behavior modification whatsoever, or most important, believing that you have a place in Hollywood when you're constantly reminded that no one looks like you.

Is it possible to look forward to driving?! With my car pal, Mindy on board, absolutely! This was a fun listen narrated by Mindy.

Mindy Kaling - writer, actress, frequent McDonald's customer.

In her second book, Kaling shares essays on mentorship in TV writing, building confidence by working hard, and how her relationship with BJ Novak can be described as "soup snakes". Hilarity ensues!

BJ also makes a vocal appearance on the audiobook - strongly defending why he fell asleep at the theater.

Mindy Kaling provides insightful essays on the complex identity of a woman. She writes about the public perception of her, and how they interact her own perceptions of herself. Sharing her own perceptions makes Kaling relatable, that she isn't an unobtainable woman on a pedestal but a woman who is still, and may always be, figuring herself out. As women we are constantly changing, and Kaling shares her changes from juice cleanses to maintaining meaning in her words.

This was another audiobook I grabbed for our Vegas trip (I figured The Great Gatsby on the way there and this one on the way home). I don't know a ton about Mindy (other than she was on The Office), but the hubby and I really liked Amy Schumer's book we listened to a few months ago so I thought we could give this one a try. I was very surprised to find out that Mindy is not just that annoying boy-crazy girl on The Office, but was actually one of the writers for the show (as well as writes and stars in her own show now). I wouldn't say I walked away with some great words of wisdom or deeper understanding of anything profound, but the stories she told were entertaining and I especially appreciated that the audio was read by her. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Mindy is funny, relatable and unapologetic. Listening to her audiobook feels a lot like giggling with the girls at happy hour.

I love listening to Mindy Kaling's audiobooks, because her voice is the best. This was cute and funny, though not quite as much to my taste as her last book. BUT. There was a joke about possums that had me laughing out loud.

FIRST: If you are listening to the downloadable audiobook, listen at 2X speed! There is this weird modulation in the audio on the default speed that indicates someone slowed Kaling's voice down in post, maybe thinking of listeners who need more time to process each word. But her delivery of the jokes in this book is really affected by the change in timing. Speeding it up to 2X will absolutely fix the joke timing and brings her delivery closer to the speed at which she normally speaks for an audience, which is pretty no-holds-barred rapid-fire.

Now, review of the book: Totally hilarious! A smart, unapologetic, brash, bold, joyful, romantic, and vulnerable peek into Mindy Kaling's life. Perfect for fans of her last book, her show The Mindy Project, and for anyone with an interest in Hollywood and the world of entertainment production.

Oh Mindy. I do love you and the Mindy Project, but this book just wasn't that interesting. I felt like there should have been more humor, and it was noticeably lacking. The part I paid the most attention to was the "Mindy Kaling alternate life in NY", which was basically a TV episode with the male lead as another Danny Castellano character (not that I'm complaining about that because I love Danny). This goes to show that the rest of the content of this memoir just wasn't that compelling or necessary. It may have been better to wait another few years to write another memoir. I'll still read anything in the future, but I will probably go in with lower expectations.

...I am influenced by a societal pressure to be thin...I feel it the same way anybody who picks up a magazine and sees Keira Knightley’s elegantly bony shoulder blades poking out of a backless dress does. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen my shoulder blades once. Honestly, I’m dubious that any part of my body could be so sharp and firm as to be described as a “blade.” ...even though I wish I could be thin, and that I could have the ease of lifestyle that I associate with being thin, I don’t wish for it with all of my heart. Because my heart is reserved for way more important things.

Who is the beauty icon that inspires you the most? ...Mine is Nosferatu, because that vampire taught me my number-one and number-two favorite beauty tricks of all time: avoid the sun at all costs and always try to appear shrouded in shadows.
