Follows the follies of a stressed-out guy in a dead-end job who is told he has a terminal "brain cloud." A zany jillionaire then makes him an offer that gives him a fleeting taste of the good life. In exchange, he must journey to a Pacific Island and leap into a volcano. Is Joe doomed to be the last of the red-hot lovers? Not if the forces of imagination, romantic comedy, and the charm of Ryan in 3 roles as the women in Joe's life have their way.

The movie aspired to be profound--which it is, for about 30 seconds--but mostly it's dumb.

One of my favourite movies, written by John Patrick Shanley, and with a young Tom Hanks, and Meg Ryan playing three roles: A lifeless brunette trapped in a tedious, thankless job (brunettes always get a bad rap); a vacuous, spoiled red head (with one of the best lines in the movie "I have no response to that" when presented with something emotional or personal); and the self-possessed, fearless blonde heroine who rescues Joe from his despair. You really can't take this movie seriously- the "natives" of the islands are the descendants of the Vikings that couldn't navigate, and they drink orange soda. The real star of the movie is the luggage! A good watch with a later Tom Hanks movie, Castaway, although the two movies are complete opposites.

A very... odd movie; has funny moments as well as enjoyable ones, however not a movie I would buy as it's slow, weird at many points, and confusing. Fun to watch just for family movie night still.
