I can remember, way back when, finding her 2nd album entitled "Happy Woman Blues" and falling in love with it and her vocal style. This was soon after its release in 1980. She'd had an earlier one, Ramblin, in 1978, but I'd missed it. Anyway, it's hard to believe now that it took 8 years from "Happy Woman" to hear from her again with this self titled album. I only post it now because I'm posting all of the 2014 releases I've listened to and rated (and some purchased) and Lucinda William's 1988 self titled album has been released this year as a Deluxe Set with a second album of live perfomances.

What can I say? Maybe she doesn't blow me away quite as much now as before, but that's only because vocalists who sound unique when first heard become less unique as you get used to their sound. Lucinda is still one of my favoite female singers around and this 2 disc package is as great as the original one was in 1988....just more to listen to. Frankly, unless I had extra money laying around, I'd stick with the single 1988 version. The bonus album is a good listen but not necessary unless the package gives you some other goodies. I didn't even notice if the original was remastered. It probably was.
