Hilda is sitting in her tent at night listening to the rumble of the storm passing overhead when she hears a bell. She had left that very same bell tied to a rock (that she very well knew was anything but that) days before in the hope that she might catch a glimpse of that most elusive of woodland creatures: the troll. As she hurtles towards the vanishing sound of tinkling bells, Hilda unwittingly embarks on an adventure into strange worlds ruled by magical forces.

This fantastical adventure of an artist, reader, and explorer is such a wild trip. I want to hop right into the pages and spend more time with these characters. Super cute and has a good moral - don't make snap judgments.

Super cute book. It is so short though that it feels like you could read it as a bedtime story. I wish it had been longer.

This is the start of a series, and it's a good one. Hilda is one of those heroines the world needs. She's part Pippi Longstocking with a dash of Bilbo Baggins, but you can also call her late for dinner (though that happens in another adventure.)

Lovely illustrations, dangerous foes, fanciful folklore, and just enough cuteness is found within. Looking forward to reading the rest. And also looking forward to the animated series (though that will be in 2018, so don't sweat it just yet.)

If Calvin of "Calvin and Hobbes" lived in Scandinavia, he'd be best friends with Hilda! Whimsy, wonderful drawings, and a heroine who's eager for adventure make this a fantastic read.
