The best thing about this book is the way the illustrations for each shape have more shapes hidden inside them, which turns reading this book into a kind of game. My early reader and I really enjoyed reading through this book and then finding all the shapes in the pictures. The artwork is very pretty, and I appreciate being able to add this to my ongoing quest to teach the kid to speak a little Spanish. Everyone should know a little Spanish these days!

I like this book because it's true.

Thong and Parra joyfully capture Hispanic-American cultural elements and use rhymed couplets sprinkled with Spanish to invite young readers to find more shapes in the illustrations. The bold, textured paintings are inviting and visceral, featuring primary colors on every page. Parra masterfully creates depth in his paintings with pictures you want to touch. A helpful descriptive glossary not only defines but also explains many of the Spanish words featured in the text.
