This is a film about remembering. I went back in time to the many summers I spent with my grandparents at their lake cabin. Time moves slower. Memories are made that will
last a lifetime. This story moves slowly.....but is lovely and reminded me so much of those wonderful times and people.

What a sweet film. Don't expect any big plot points or revelations, just enjoy a couple summer days on an island off the Maine coast as two elderly sisters cherish memories and face the future.

I enjoyed this for the legends, more so than the story, which was thin and wanting.

I loved this movie when I saw it about 20 years ago ... and finally got a chance to see it again. Miss Gish is a doll. Bette Davis is over-the-top Bette! The plot is whether or not the blind sister is going to cast a "yes" vote to put in a picture window so the sighted sister can more easily see the whales. Maybe not earth shattering, but fun to watch it play out just the same.

I, too found this film difficult to get into, and I wasn't sure I would continue. I am so glad I did. It was a real honor to watch these classic stars in their last years. It must have taken great courage for them to have done this, especially Bette Davis, as a bitter old woman, with her only gracious line at the very end. This film let's you feel what it is like to grow old and to be facing the end of your life, but done with such skill and sensitivity, covering the range of emotions. Stellar performances from four warhorses, with true pathos and sympathy.

Did this movie have a plot? It was torture to make it through this one. We only watched it because we kept thinking surely it would get better. Wish we didn't.

One of my all-time favourite movies. Subtle direction, a beautiful location and heartbreaking performances from two of the most amazing leading ladies ever to grace the silver screen make this a delight to watch. I only hope I am as vibrant in my later years as this cast.
