A New York Times Bestselling Author -- Apple Knoll is the kind of suburb where kids grow up right. But something is very wrong. When fourteen-year-old Kevin Bartlett disappears, everyone thinks he's run away -- until the comic strip ransom note arrives. It doesn't take Boston PI Spenser long to get the picture: an affluent family seething with rage, a desperate boy making strange friends like bodybuilder Vic Harroway. Mr. Muscle is Spenser's only lead and he isn't talking -- except with his fists.

The casual and not-so-casual sexism and homophobia in this book did me in. Could we argue that that was a sign of the times? Maybe. But, we are seeing what the excuse 'it was the norm of the times' leads to today. I say let us finally leave those times in those times and move on.

After that, I do not care whether it is a good book or not. There are too many good books out there without the layers of misogyny and homophobia for us to hold onto this type of book today.

A terrific little mystery, I think Parker writes the best dialogue. Spenser's smart-ass remarks are always gold.

The second of the Spenser series. Spenser meets Susan, sparks fly watch out bad guys Spenser is getting motivated and Parker is starting to hit his stride in what will become one of the best mystery/PI series ever written.
