Good Kid, Maad City is Kendrick Lamar’s second album. This album is one of the most popular albums in hip hop since 2010. The album is a story of Kendrick’s life as a kid while growing up in Compton. It is very well put together and tells a great story. It talks about a girl named Sherane that Kendrick liked, how he made mistakes and about his family. It is regarded as his best album he’s released so far. Pretty much every song on the album is good which is a reason why it is rated so highly. Stand out tracks for me are B*tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe, Money Trees, Poetic Justice featuring Drake and Swimming Pools. Every song has a deep meaning in the lyrics. For example, Sing About Me I’m Dying of Thirst is a 12 minute song where Kendrick talks about the perspective of different people he knew growing up in Compton. He speaks on the struggles they went through and it truly is a masterpiece of a song. If you’re new to Kendrick Lamar then this should be the first album you listen to by him. It is a total recommend and is one of the best albums you will hear if you like hip hop.
