A special movie tie-in edition of R.J. Palacio's #1 New York Times bestseller, now a major motion picture starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, and Mandy Patinkin.

Over 6 million people have fallen in love with Wonder and Auggie Pullman, the ordinary boy with the extraordinary face, who inspired a movement to Choose Kind.

August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid--but his new classmates can't get past Auggie's extraordinary face. Wonder , a #1 New York Times bestseller, begins from Auggie's point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community's struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

In a world where bullying among young people is an epidemic, this is a refreshing new narrative full of heart and hope. R.J. Palacio has called her debut novel "a meditation on kindness" --indeed, every reader will come away with a greater appreciation for the simple courage of friendship. Auggie is a hero to root for, who proves that you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.

August "Auggie" Pulman would say he's just your average 5th grade boy that loves Star Wars, science, & hanging out with his family & friends. The world, however, would say he's anything but ordinary. Due to a chromosome issue, Auggie was born with a deformed face which has caused him a number of issues. He's learned how to live within his challenges, but what he wants most is to live in the world & be viewed as just another average boy. His mother encourages (lovingly pushes) him to start his schooling outside of the home at Beecher Prep. The book follows Auggie's 5th grade school year through various people's prospective. What started out as a difficult & very painful year transformed into a wonderful relationship with many of his schoolmates & a new kind of relationship with the members of his own family.

My daughter & I listened to this book together every time we got in the car. There were many times we would sit in the parking lot at our destination for several minutes just because we weren't ready to stop the book. Although we don't struggle with the same issues as Auggie, we both were able to draw our own parallels to struggles we both experience & how we could learn to handle them in the same way Auggie did. It was also a great reminder to us both that no matter how difficult we think we have it, there is always somebody that has larger, heavier struggles than our own.

Age recommendation: 8 & up (I don't remember anything that was unsuitable for younger readers, it is more due to the content related to Auggie's struggles due to his facial deformity.)

On a scale from 1-10 stars, I give it 10!

While understanding the perspectives of several who wrote less faborable reviews, I devoured this book, loved the multiple POVs and highly recommend it. It's more than a feel-good, all-ends-well book. It's deep and insightful, with so much of the depth inferred rather than specifically stated. I often felt what the characters were feeling -- uncertainty, hurt, pride, a desire to do the right thing without exactly knowing how. When a book engages me at that level, it's a win.

Excellent read for all ages! The story starts off in the perspective of Auggie, but I was really drawn in when it switched to other characters in the book. The author does a great job giving life to the grey area in between right and wrong, where so many social lessons are learned as a child!

This is a terrific book. Auggie Pullman, born with several birth defects that caused him to have a facial deformity, moves from home-schooling to middle school. He has an interesting year at school, making friends and breaking down barriers and prejudices due to his outstanding character. A very moving book that teaches the importance personality vs. looks, a valuable lesson for kids and adults of any age.
