Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore, and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.

Wes Anderson at his best! A great coming-of-age love story with
a cute Romeo & Juliet vibe to it!

Great performances all around!

A tounge in cheek, comic book style love story
Other themes explored: adultry, marriage, stereotypes, bullies, community, violence, nature, foster care system, parental examples (illness like rage and depression) which get passed to children

Two teen out casts, artistic, violent tempers, self assured, genuine... fall in love. Products of their personalities, environments and others around them.

The entire island community gets involved. They had a plan to return in ten days, even left notes, but the parents and community unnecessarily turns it into a huge emergency situation...

The bullies that caused the boy to run away from camp (life) turn into his friends during the adventure. Adults learn to value and respect the kids during the journey. Foster care system let the intelligent / artistic boy down... he gets adopted by the police man of the island.

Well acted, well written, well directed... beautiful camera work, fun, sad, relatable on many levels... life, love, pain, death, growth, acceptance, open minded

Great Fun.
Awesome soundtrack
Cried at the end!

Quite the spoof with well know actors. Not what I expected from them. A bit corny. Found this on dashboard.

Each time I watch Moonrise Kingdom I come out with a different opinion of it. This time it happens to be negative. A lot of MK feels like a well crafted parody of a Wes Anderson movie. It has enough cutesy charm to keep me entertained, but the reliance on two young, inexperienced actors in the lead roles definitely backfires for me. Anderson’s had success with casting youngsters that steal viewer’s hearts in his other movies (and even this one), but unfortunately Sam and Suzy don’t cut the mustard. Stick with it for the color palette, and delightfully hammy performances from Tilda Swinton, Bob Balaban, and Frances McDormand, but don’t expect to get much more from it besides the jack hammered message that adults are children and children are adults. That being said, I’ll still probably watch it whenever it’s convenient and I have nothing better to do.

....where white is black and black is white, where the adult is the child and the child is the adult. Now where oh where have I seen this before?

Sweet, charming and yes, a little oddly awkward, this quiet movie is a great watch for fans of the TV show A Series of Unfortunate Events.

When I daydream, my mind surely goes to a place just like this. Wes Anderson presents a wonderfully fantastical and extraordinary story in which love prevails for two 12-year old outcasts. Using tones similar to a faded Polaroid, the scenes hone in on colour palette that is typically Wes. And the music does not disappoint either- from a catchy French pop tune, to dramatic orchestral scores that foreshadow each new crisis. Strikingly weird, curiously charming, and an ode to all adventurers with a purpose.
P.s. I'm a raven.

Watch Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, and Bill Murray step out of their usual roles to find two kids who elope. This movie is touching and intimate as it portrays young love so purely and innocently, but with an eloquency only Wes Anderson can give it.
