A SWAT team arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord named Tama. The building has never been raided before, never been touched by police. Seen as a no-go zone, it has since become a sanctuary to killers, gangs, rapists, and thieves seeking accommodation in the one place they know they cannot be touched. Making their move in the break of dawn, the SWAT team works its way up the building under cover of silence.

This flick is pretty-damn cool because Pacific-rim jobber dudes are murdering each-other In a cold-blooded fashion. Normally, I like watching Americans, Mexican, Japanese & Chinese dudes murdering each other but this was a nice change of pace. It turns out that these rimmers kill each other in a fashionable & righteous style.

If you like action films with little dialogue, lots of violence, and long, well-choreographed fight scenes, then “The Raid” is for you. I won’t be watching the sequel.

lots of fighting, violence and bloodshed; mostly presented in a creative, inventive way... if you like this sort of movie, you will definitely like this movie. Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) was just amazingly fun to watch; he's 5'2" and a total badass, especially his fight against the two brothers. (you can find the scene on youtube searching for maddog versus brothers)

For people who think Die Hard One is snoozy, cinema verite Oscar bait. The Raid has no artificial "depth", no self-indulgent star turns. It has non-stop action, and non-stop action ideas -- Hollywood films should be half this creative. If you don't expect realistic police procedures, or a premise that makes much sense, you'll have a hell of a lot of fun.

Kaboom, bang, bratatatat, pow. whack, crack, wham, pop, boink ... nice stunts and camera work. Apparently there are similar lawless mini-slums around the world. Brazil had razed one of theirs ahead of this year's World Cup.

I just placed a hold on the sequel to this very violent, but unforgettable action/adventure film.I heard that the sequel is more epic and more violent than this original installment. The sequel to this is totally unexpected to me because this 1st installment is so bone chilling and so well made and so well directed it ain't even funny.I don't usually see extremely violent action set pieces like the ones in this film period.John Woo's best action/adventure films he produced and directed in the EAST only from the 1980's and 1990's are the only action movies that really matches this series period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Action packed and very violent. But very thin on plot.

As soon as the swat team stormed the building, I thought this movie is just like Dredd (the recent one, not the one with Stallone). Then the movie proceeded to duplicate Dredd in every way.

I assumed Dredd was a Hollywood ripoff of the Raid, but then found out otherwise. Dredd was written and filmed first.

Regardless, I found the Raid's low budget, non-cgi martial arts action to be more entertaining than Dredd.
