A very entertaining drama that reveals the amazing intelligence, sociability and sensitivity of the Asian elephant. The large "herd" of elephants is an amazing sight that may be impossible to see anywhere in Asia or Africa in the 21st century. Kipling's subtle story shows the interdependence between the British administrators and their Indian 'subjects'. The deep bellowing of the elephants relates to recent scientific research that found that elephants communicate over long distances with low frequency noises that are largely inaudible to the human ear.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The "roundup" of the wild elephants has much very loud, deep bellowing by the frightened beasts that may be scary to young children.
