Unique, innovative, exciting, and in a class of their own! The Punch Brothers are really hard to put into a category of music. The Punch Brothers record for Nonsuch Records, which up to now has been a long standing classical records producer. I do hear bits of classical music, but I hear an even stronger country/bluegrass influence. The Punch Brothers in music and lyrics are original artists with a very unique sound. You may need time to adjust your ears to hearing a strong banjo lead with violins following right behind. Songs can start out slow and finish very up tempo. The Punch Brothers are definitely not shooting to be on any country stars grand tour of live shows. I like the fact that they have so many albums with no compromises. The Punch Brothers just want to be themselves and nothing more!

Brilliant musicianship, great vocal harmonies, clever lyrics, and some haunting melodies throughout. "Flippen" rips and roars with lightning fast mandolin, banjo, and fiddle while "Soon or Never" haunts with it's lilting, sad motif. There are a couple lighter pop tunes as well but overall a great recording by the genius Thile and his groundbreaking bandmates.
