Nicely presented with good tips on the importance of site preparation, soil, pruning, etc. but not in an overwhelming way. If you're considering adding a fruit tree or two to a small space, this is a good book to review.

I especially liked the information about the different varieties of fruit trees.

Lovely book. Hoped for more info on container planting.

Gardening. Although the book has many useful aspects, the absence of growth zone information for the featured trees is extremely frustrating. The author's excuse for not providing this info is that each of us has a micro-climate that may affect growth patterns. Even so, perhaps because he is writing from California, his explanation seems like a bit of a cop-out to this North-Eastern gardener.

This book briefly touches on many aspects of fruit tree care and has some gorgeous photographs. It had some helpful tips for planting in small spaces such as putting 4 trees of the same species in 1 hole (planting in a circle about one or two feet apart), using stopping cuts when you prune to end branches once they have filled up available, and several other tips.

A good book to review for ideas BEFORE you plant trees in your small space.

Note for Ottawa: It won't help you in selecting which species or varieties would grow well here.

Ok, but limited. Just an overview.
