Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

a good book

This is the first in a trilogy about a world where every choice is made for you by the Society. Cassia is matched with Xander but is also mistakenly matched with another boy, Ky. The idea is good and the cover is lovely, but the audiobook was a little slow and I'm not sure if I want to listen to complete the trilogy.

Easy listening and an interesting concept. I listened to this with my mother while driving to Florida. Not The best piece of writing every written, and certainly not as good as the current genre leaders (i.e. Suzanne Collins, and Veronica Roth), but a half decent book to listen to while driving. I did, however, find there were a lot of conceptual gaps, but not so many that they seriously detracted from the story.

Ok for a youth novel that may still appeal to some adults but not in the category of The Giver. Very slow in some parts I may have given up on listening had I not been on a 12 hour vacation road trip.

Another teen dystopian novel. Plot was original enough, but was is plausible? Not sure. In a world where "the society" organizes your life, what you eat, who you marry, how many children you will have and even your leisure activities, I would have expected to have more wooden, colourless characters. But, everyone seems to be very trusting and naive--if you've never had any choice, how would you miss it? Quite horrifying the control that is in effect to govern the society. When the main character, Cassia, asks an official why they can't choose their own match, the official says, "well then you'd have people wanting to choose how many children they have, and their vocation--we can't have that" An interesting and different read, if that's what you're looking for.

Would like to know how it ends but not enough to read or listen to the next two books. Not enough action!

Narration was only ok. Entertaining until the end where it became a bit tedious as it tried to finish up when it really wasn't the end.

I really enjoyed this book, it was a different story, but very entertaining, look forward to the sequel
